A migrant mongrel with words, fancies and a longing in his day dreaming to belong somewhere – Fenland and Cambridge have obliged. Heavily influenced by the 60s folk notion of singing from the spirit of where you are ~ in place ~ and in time: - hence these songs.

KATE WOOLF
Kate has been singing professionally for many years and has enjoyed a rich and varied career on London’s West End stage and in concerts around the country. She is constantly trying to keep up with Alexander, her 14 year old son. Like the rest of Hobson’s Voice, Kate lives in the
Fen village of Over.

ALEXANDER WOOLF
Apart from playing piano, violin and saxophone, Alexander is studying composition at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is an Aldeburgh Young Musician, meeting all genres of music on courses at Snape Maltings. Alexander is an all-round person, very patient with the older member’s of Hobson’s Voice.

SIMON CHARLESWORTH
Simon was born in the first half of the twentieth century and joined his first choir at junior school. His eclectic tastes in music do not include rap or barber shop singing. For the last thirty something years he has been singing unaccompanied folk songs and sea shanties. Hobson’s Voice is his first foray into folk singing as a group activity. He intends to be a fit and healthy grumpy old man in the second half of the twenty first century.

NICK CHARLESWORTH
Nick was born in the presence of his parents in 1992. By the age of fifteen he was playing in a baroque ensemble, a gypsy swing jazz band, three choirs, a folk group and a rock band. A multi instrumentalist, polymath and generally nice bloke and inspiration for a mandolin ensemble at Swavesey Village College, his ambition is to inherit his father’s beard so he can pass his onto his (so far unborn) children.
