17 ORIGINAL* SONGSof CAMBRIDGE CITY, CAMBRIDGESHIRE & FENLAND

Here is a UNIQUE way of seeing this special place!!!  History is vibrant here...it's a place of movement and surprise. In these songs, there is Love, Drama, Lust, Hope, Day-Dream and Bravery Beyond All Normal Credibility.
If there is one beautiful phrase to explain the nature of this city and county, it is ****LIVE AND LET LIVE!!****
Yes, we even have a pub with that name! It is but one of the many jewels for you to find, be welcomed in, and enjoy!

All these songs come from moments in real lives, or imagined here. All the music is original, bar two tunes which are traditional-arranged...borrowed they may be, but they feel as if they belong here. All the words are original, too, although the basis of ALICE CRUTCHFIELD came from a chance meeting in The 7Wives Pub in St.Ives with Mick MacDonald who sang a version from The Midlands...HOBSON'S VOICE thought ALICE was too beautiful a girl to leave alone, so we kidnapped her..."Oh, My Ducky!"...a phrase from a much-loved Fenland character in our village of Over.

Over has known folk songs for a very long time. Hannah Few (nee Ivett or Hopkins) was born here in 1821. She passed on songs she knew to her daughter, Charlotte. These traditional "Folksongs Collected in Cambridgeshire" (via Vaughan Williams, Cecil Sharp, Lucy Broadwood and Ella Bull) have been compiled in a beautiful book by Cambridgeshire-based folk musician, Mary Humphreys. You should visit      www.maryhumphreys.co.uk      to find out more...and to acquire this very special part of our heritage.

HOBSON'S VOICEhas collaborated with MARY HUMPHREYS and ANAHATA to present and perform
'The TRADITION of CAMBRIDGESHIRE FOLK SONG...THEN AND NOW"
