WHO ARE WE?
JOHN REES A migrant mongrel with words, fancies and a longing in his day dreaming to belong somewhere – Fenland and Cambridge have obliged. Heavily influenced by the 60s folk notion of singing from the spirit of where you are ~ in place ~ and in time: - hence these songs.
John is the founder member of Hobson's Voice.
KATE WOOLF Kate worked in professional theatre for 10 years, in
such West End shows as Les Miserables, Aspects of
Love, Chess and Brigadoon, then moved to Cambridgeshire in 1996 and
is in much demand as a soloist, having given many well-received concerts
throughout the country. She regularly sings for choirs in and around Cambridge,
where works have included Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate and Coronation
Mass, Mendelssohn's Hymn of Praise, Rutter's Magnificat and
Mozart's Requiem. She has also developed a busy career as a singing
An experienced ceilidh band musician who plays guitar and
mandolin and who ran his own band for 12 years before joining Parson’s Nose in 1993.
Also deputises with other local ceilidh bands. Started folk musical life in a successful vocal and instrumental
trio in High Wycombe. Now sings at many local folk clubs and sessions in
partnership with a local storyteller playing material from the music hall era. Playing with Hobson’s Voice allows for instrumental
experience to extend to the ukulele!
MIKE Mike plays piano accordian and sometimes clarinet (not at the same time!). His accordian skills have given a real boost to the group. He is the only member that gets to sit down for the entire performance!
LINDA Linda is a highly accomplished musician, who has enhanced many of our songs with her harmonised arrangements. She is one of our vocalists and is also quite a whizz on the recorder!
LUCY MANN Lucy is our most recent recruit, joining us in September 2015. She plays flute and whistle and is also a singer.
COLIN Colin is one of our vocalists. He also tends to be our compere/front man as he is rarely lost for words when in front of an audience and he has been known to bring an audience to tears.... with laughter of course!
ERICA A folk group is nothing without a fiddle player and Hobson's Voice are very fortunate to have Erica play for us. When not 'fiddling' she can often be found boosting the vocal department.
